Feed back on " Resurgence"...

Hello Vishwesh and Ashwini,

I am fortunate to have known you and been on stage with you in Memphis during my sojourn in Memphis.  Although I am into film music and sugaam sangeet, I have felt mesmerized by your voice and singing.  When we did a geetmaala based on one raga in Memphis, I was in 7th heaven (if there is a place like that up there), and since then, I have been going to more classical music concerts than ever before and see the beauty of it and recognize that most songs are based on this music.

I am sad that you are leaving USA, but I am sure you will come back on concert tours.  I wish you all the best, and I congratulate you on your beautiful CD.  I will be there when you receive your Padmashree in India.

I like track 2 (guruvin) a lot, too...the rhythm, the vocals, the instrumentation...it's all good.
Track 3 "Niranthara" is more of a meditation track to me.  I could listen
to that and work all day long...it's very soothing.
I love track 4 "Tum bin"  - just because I'm a sucker for a pure, clear
female voice like Ashwini has.  :)
I have listened to Ramcharan several times now and it's very soothing.  I
like the almost harp sound that I believe to be the guitar.  I like the way the rhythm fades in, exits, and returns at the end.  And, of course, I love to vocals!  You and Ashwini are truly talented artists!!
Natha Hare sounds GREAT now!  Just enough reverb...excellent mixing job! this is REALLY very solid work...be proud!
Allie Stover

I don't think you know me. Before going ahead here is my introduction. I am Lavanya Inguva, working for FedEx. I happened to receive a mail from Aparna about your new album. Couldn't hold to compliment you till july 22nd. It is great job done by you, ashwini and your instrumentalist's troop.
My favorite is "niranthara". I never heard you singing, in this song your
voice was ? Speechless..astonishing. Congratulations and I hope your album is a huge success.
Lavanya

I had a sublime experience listening to naatha hare. Did not understand the language.  is it sanskrit ? darbari was very soothing.  reminded me of so many songs in the same raga.. inspires me to sing "devank ke pati indra" from "swati thirunaL" - mallu movie..
I am an amateur singer/composer based in Columbia, SC. Please share more music with us.
Murali

After a prolonged academic fight, I am finally defending my PhD thesis
today.  Guess what I wanted to hear as a prayer before I wanted to go on the dais.  Your natha hare.  I am surprised too that this song must come to my mind today.  Thank you for such a bhaavam rich rendition which made most of my negativity vanish and filled me with devotion.  I think I am going to defend myself much better with the results left to the almighty.
Thanks for your wonderful song.
Murali

I have to introduce myself first. I am Divya and I was with BFL from
1996-97. I don't think we have met, but after listening to your song, I
wish that we had. I have no words. Just amazing.
There is something about your music that takes you away from this world. It is very relaxing and escaping kind and very catching. I love it.

I have listened to your CD every morning since last thursday. The CD is simply beautiful. I know you must have got a lot of appreciation for it, and mine must sound cliched ! But the best composition for me was the "guru" song in Marathi. I particularly liked the duet and the melody and your alaapane in the whole song was splendid. In places I could hear two female voices, that was very interesting.
The other two that I liked were Naatha hare and the meera bhajan. My grandma sang a lot of meera bhajans very well, but I had not heard of krishna's appreciation for having saved draupadi's laaj in any of them :-) So that was new for me. Waiting to hear about your next project.
Rashmi Rammurthy

I have been listening to your Natha Hare at least once a day. I have decided to send your Resurgence Album to my Sister as a valuable gift from a brother for this year Gowri Festival.

Bandu Jayprakash

EXCELLENT, WONDERFUL AND VERY MATURE!!!!!!!!!
I really enjoyed your 'Natha Hare' song.
We could gauge the maturity and the command over the raagas and the depth of your vocal. Anyway its gonna hit the charts in a big way.
Ravindra B.N

All songs are fantastic. You both sing very well. This is the first time I
got the opportunity to hear your "Sangeetha". Please keep sending me this and I really enjoyed
listening to your music. I am sure you must have started giving  concerts and if you happen to come to bay area, please keep me posted.
Prasad Rao

SIMPLY AWESOME!!!!! Natha Hare is really really good in its content and flow. I really enjoyed it. I would also like to make a minor comment on the background. If it was a little stronger/louder, it would increase the overall feel. Overall great job and keep it up. best of luck!
Rajnish Bhat

Hope all the politics are kept aside and we get a chance to hear your songs in person.  Good to know the talents that were neglected are growing in a rapid phase.
Sowmya

Hey budd, I have never met you, but your songs are wonderful.
I am not much of a music buff, but I listened to your stuff and it was
awesome. Me and my wife enjoyed it.  Keep your passion going, life is all about living out once passion to the best possible extent.
Miboy Mathew

Today morning listened to both the songs. They have come very good.

1. The highlight of Natha Hare is all about the simplicity of your style of singing.
I thought the guitar has given a good note in the beginning and when there is not much singing but I felt that when you are in full flow the guitar notes are not that apt.
2. The Tum Bin starts slowly but is filled very well by Kitta's flute and
then Ashwini takes over. With the sample did not get a very clear idea
about where the song is headed. So will wait to hear more.
And I liked the pitch you have selected for both the songs. The pitch suits very well for a traditional music.
Even a half scale higher pitch would have ruined the majestic  rendering in Natha Hare.
Vardamana Hegde

Fantastic production. Very proud of you. Hope all is well with all three of you.
Bhrugu Shah

Listened to 2 of your songs from the new album at SoundClick.com. Liked them very much and enjoyed listening. Thanks and wish you GOOD LUCK!

Hi,
We listened to your album Ghama Ghama it's really great and all the best for your effort. Wish you all the best for your future albums
One suggestion for the cover page of the album - we felt Kannada letters should have been there along with English Ghama Ghama.

My name is Anantha. I live in Dallas, TX for the past 4 years. Last Nov. during Deepavali we were in DFW Hindu Temple for 'Kannada mallige' function.  During that time we had a chance to listen to your songs. While going home my sister purchased your cassette Ghama.. Ghama. Few months back she & family left to India for good.
She listened to this cassette a lot of times and gave it to me before going to India. I been listening to it ever since. I thought its the right time to give you a note of appreciation.  All songs are very good- you
both are very good singers.  Keep up the good work and keep up Kannada.  See you in Dallas again soon.

Dear Mr/Mrs Vishwesh,
Namaskara. We are extremely happy with the interest that you have shown in becoming a part of our big family - Kannadaaudio.com. We did visit your website and found your music samples to be awe-inspiring to say the least. We are glad that you chose our platform for promoting yourself, and we assure you that we shall do our best to promote the talents of our fellow kannadigas, no matter where they are. The basic tenet of our whole process being to promote kannada language and kannada music.

Again, we are extremely glad in welcoming you to our family, and look forward for a longer and deeper association with you.

Praveen, kannada audio.com

We thoroughly enjoyed the music. Yes, Hareesh had mentioned about the difficulty of putting this altogether by yourselves and the lack of availability of studio quality technical means and etc. However, I think that the choice of the kavanas, janapada/folk songs, and the choice of the ragas, the rendering and above all the voice, all these in a quorum kind of makes it a pleasurable experience. It over-shadows whatever minor technical nuances a music critique may find in the album! The other important feat of this album, we personally thought was that, it is New and refreshing.

We must congratulate both of you of the effort and dedication and hope you continue to bring out more.

Both by daughters Jahnavi(4 1/2) and Sharvari(1 1/2) now say "gama gama" in that tune. Jahnavi can sing the first two lines! Thanks to you both! Best regards and the very best of luck.

Hi,

I got a chance to hear your album.
To tell you the truth, it was horrible!!. I could not even listen to the end of each song I had to switch to next song in the middle.  Some songs I could not even understand the words what singer was singing.

The singers are too bad.  The meaning of Bhaavageethe comes
from 'Bhaava'.  Which is the main essense of _expression of words and feeling in the voice.  Not just singing a song with some new instruments does not make it it any good.

Also, I don't think music composers does not understand the meaning of the songs too. Mixed and mashed the songs very badly.

It's a great effort from both of you with equally wonderful results.  By the way, myself and my wife very much liked the second song. Voice is very mature, hypnotic, fluent, and very electric. Next thing we noticed with this particular song was less dominance by the musical instruments and more prominence to voice. This was so well sung, it doesn't need any music. It often reminded us the MS Subbalaksmi's suprabhata, which we cherished for decades.

While it has been a great efforts to fuse the western musing with Indian songs, we could sometime sense the taste of nice coffee mixed with coke. May be in right tuned up proportion, they go well together. Nonetheless, it is a great going. Once again congratulations on the good outcome. Keep it going.

I have a new (needless to say kannada) CD which is, in my opinion, unlike many other kannada CDs. I think it suits very well the now generation of kannadigAs. So said Mr.NSL himself.

Quick Background :
In the online edition of Udayavani, there was a news item about an anivasi kannada couple who have produced their own CD; as luck would have it, at the end of the article, the e-mail address of Mr.vishvEshaBaT was given; the content of the article made me curious. So I used the e-mail address and wrote a casual e-mail. At this time, the artist was in Bangalore.

But Mr.VishvEshaBaT promptly wrote an e-mail after he came back, and followed it up with a phone call. And Lo! and Behold! he sent me a copy of his CD which came today (sept 22, 2004)

I am writing this e-mail after listening to it twice in a row. Whatever you may disagree with, I am sure you will agree that this is unlike other kannada CDs, and they form a dare-devil couple. Obviously, they are not afraid of experimenting. I feel if existing American and Canadian kannada kutAs do not encourage artists like this couple, who else should ? Their CD recommends them much more eloquently than anyone else can.

You don't have to act on this, if you don't want to - but I feel glad to have parted with material information. Their phone number is 901-624-0642. Please respond at your leisure.

Talent finds people and people find talent. Very nice to see some one else verbalize exactly what I felt when I heard the CD for the first time. It will go places. You have done your work, sit back and enjoy what it will do now, and give it time.

I listened to your  whole CD. I was surprised at the variety. I think my favorite was track # 6. It sounded a lot like a Country Western  song. I also liked the track with Johnerson a lot. Good job. Congratulations.

You both did an excellent job. I had a friend with me and she also enjoyed it. (she had never heard you). You are a gifted soul and your voice is excellent (beyond words). I hope once you have it going and perhaps learn more Hindi, punjabi etc. songs; you could entertain Indians in USA.

Dear Ashwini & Vishwesh,
We sure enjoyed having you guys over, both at our house as well as at the DeepavaLi function. I'm sure that a better sound system would have made a lot of difference, but everyone that was at the function, that I've spoken to after the function has lots of praises for you both for an excellent performance. Thanks to you both for accepting the invitation to come and perform in Dallas, though you had a long drive to get here and back. We all sincerely wish you both the very best and I am sure your hard work will definitely pay off and you get good exposure for your talent.

A big thanks to Nikhilesh and Poornima for taking care of you guys as well. Last, but not the least, all this would not have been possible had it not been for Sahana and Sunil who unfortunately missed the wonderful program.

..My daugther Sanju asked me "appa what you do think, do I like Vishwesh Mama's songs or not?" I said, "I don't know, you must tell me". You know what her answer was "appa I love these songs, I feel like listening everyday" and also she has added "appa..this is not like an American song which comes on Radio?"........I was surprised to hear that .........You know she has told me "appa I will learn Piano well and next year during Taranga function I will play like Vishwesh mama"........I can't believe that you have become so popular figure in her eyes ...........

I received the "ghama ghama" CD yesterday and started enjoying it! Very nice and I am glad I got to know abt it thru Bheemprakash and thatskannada.com. If I were to list the contents of CD in my "favorite" order, it would be: "Sontada myaale", "Ghama ghama (VB version)", "muLLu koneya", "Uttunga..", "Kurubaro", "Doorake doorake", "aawa raaga", "Thilini happala"... Well, that's just "Srivathsa Joshi" rearrangment and has nothing to do with individual merit of each song in the CD. Don't take it personal. You both are gems and have made a nicest thing to Kannada.

Vish,
Felt really happy to see you in India. At first I thought the back ground music is not with the current trend. Just felt it is out of fashion and other few thoughts...All these things took a back seat...if we consider...
- the enthusiasm you have shown all along for music
- the passion you have for music
- the desire to give back some thing to the people around you
- the thrust you have within, to show case your talents to people around you..
Kudos to the interesting couple from Memphis :)
You have got a beautiful husky voice Ashwini.
Let there be more trendy albums/attempts from both of you.

Excellent!!!!!!!!!! Congratulations!!!!!!!!!!!!
Both the songs are very nice. Music is nicely arranged & has the perfect match with the central character of the songs. I heartily appreciate your creativity. Above all both you & your wife have a very good voice.
I have heard these songs more than fifty times & have found few technical problems regarding level of percussions, Bass drum’s punch, humming etc. I would have illustrated all but as you have written that level settings are still to be done, I suggest you to get the perfect levels before sending it to any mastering engineer otherwise it becomes very tough to fix such problems later.
Rest everything is very nice. I am eager to listen all the songs of your album. My best wishes are with you for your bright musical future.
I went through Kurubaro.. I don't understand lyrics, but I found that one, a perfect piece of music with wonderful thought.

* * * * * (5 stars) Kurabaro - I had to listen to this one three times.
It's refreshing and with the quick beat chances, it keeps you on your toes. It's exotic, very easy to listen to and fun. Thank you for giving me the honor of listening to it.
Sontada Myale - You know why I loved this one, because of you and Johnersons collaboration, it is extra special.
Uttunga - I loved the switches and balancing off, of the guitar and piano.
Ghama Ghama - I think I know what you were doing with both, you on the first track and your wife on the second. I love the different flavors between you and Ashwini's voice, but the first one was a lot softer and I think will be more appealing to women than men.
Vishwesh, very talented and great great tracks.

Kurabaro was like being in an opra hall, with all the marvelous acoustics. Thanks again for letting me check out your cuts.

I listened to all of them, they have come out quite well, few things
which I felt could make the things more better is
1. Awaraga - Wish there could be some flute piece in it :)
2. KurubaRO - Tabla or some percussion would enhance the song even more, but thats the best I liked in the lot :)
3. Sontada myale - its fine as it is.., have work on acoustics a bit..reducing the  reverberance..

Awaragava is completely classical n only the music behind is giving a different effect....may be little difference in singing style would make it better. Kurubaroo has come out really well.......looks like it is perfect !!! Happala has to be modified........it is not smooth going
Sontada myala.....doesnt sound very natural..!!!
Kurubaroo is a real neat work ....Congratulate ur friend on behalf of me for that..

Hi Vishwesh,
My brother received the CD. He also listened the songs. He just liked the songs.
He also mentioned 3 or 4 times that kurbaru song is very good that was sung by you. Thanks, call you in the week end.

Vishwesh and Team from Memphis (last program of the function).  Amazing! Really talented individuals. I would have celebrated the day in ten folds if we had given them a chance to sing for about 30 more minutes. If we had improved our efficiency from the start, I am sure we could have done that. But anyway, it was great! Thanks guys for driving from Memphis to entertain us.
I know local talent gets first preference, but the group from Memphis was amazing and if we had that program in the afternoon after lunch, with instructions to sing "only kannada songs", I am sure we would have celebrated kannada poetry "in fusion!".
